After Cavarozzi

The client came in with a specific painting rather than a theme: a Baroque Virgin with angels she attributed to Bartolomeo Cavarozzi, and she wanted it small, on the arm. Working at that size means most of the original canvas has to go, and choosing what survives is the whole job. Nadia keeps the three faces and the crown and lets everything else fall back into soft brown shadow, so the composition reads instantly even at a few inches. The gold is the only fully saturated color in the piece and it sits exactly where the story is, on the crown and in the hair. The bowed head is doing the rest. By Nadia Most.
