Gilded Blindfold

The client flew in from out of state and asked for one thing: a black and grey portrait with a red and gold blindfold, in Nadia's style. The restraint Nadia shows in the design is what makes it land. Everything except the silk is greyscale, so the eye goes to the ribbon and stays there, and the gold filigree laid across it reads as woven damask rather than highlight. Watch where the details get used. The marcel waves are worked strand by strand, the earring is one clean unbroken loop, and the face below the blindfold is left almost bare, which is what makes the covered eyes the subject rather than the woman.
