Her Daughter, Crowned

Monica's collector asked for a woman who looks like her daughter, strong rather than soft, and Monica paints her with red hair, green eyes and freckles across the nose. She crowns the head with red peonies and blue cornflowers, then runs a gold snake down through them so the design keeps moving down the arm instead of stopping at the portrait. The snake was the collector's own request. The strong blues and deep reds are hers too. This has taken two sessions. By Monica Snyder.
