Scissortail and Wildflowers

Luiza's collector is an environmental scientist from Houston, so Luiza built this piece around a scissor-tailed flycatcher framed by native Texas wildflowers and blackberry vines. She set the bird mid-flight with its long tail streaming down the calf, which carries the eye the full length of the lower leg and gives the piece the best flow for the body. Luiza kept everything soft and painterly, and picked up the bird's warm oranges again in the yellow bloom beneath it. Done in one session. By Luiza Fortes.
