The Butterfly Case

Nadia's collector wanted a butterfly for her grandmother, who kept cases of them that were lost over the years. Nadia gives her a new one and builds the case back around it: a gilded oval frame with a fine red line inside the border, so the butterfly reads as something kept rather than something that just landed there. She works the wings in deep red with the blue eyespots picked out, and renders the gold with enough depth that the frame sits above the skin. The oval is placed above the knee where the thigh is flattest, which keeps the frame from distorting. This has taken two sessions. By Nadia Most.
