The Protector

Ramon's collector is building a half sleeve up from the wrist, dedicated to his family, and this owl stands for protection over his son. He asked Ramon to work an existing name tattoo into the design instead of starting clean. Ramon set the owl low and forward with its eyes level to the viewer, then built tall reeds and a torn opening around it so the whole forearm reads as one scene. He kept the deepest blacks in the reeds behind the bird, which is what pushes the owl's face and chest forward. Two sessions in August 2026, at the start of a longer project. By Ramon Rodrigo.
